People remember when they would like to remember and how they would like to remember things. Externally you may think they think of you as nothing, but internally you may mean so much more. Growing up I had countless "friends". They would keep me around for when they needed help. I was there for them no matter what. But when they didn't need me, they acted as though I meant nothing to them. But here is the thing HopeInPain, as long as you know you made a difference, even if only for a moment, that's all that matters. I didn't stay friends with those people because I thought they would one day treat me the way I treated them. I kept them as friends because no matter what, they could never say that noone cared.
Someone out there cares for you. They may not show it in a way you can see, but they care. Everyone on this website cares. Life's not about writing a story for all to see. It's about writing a story no matter what. Your story is your story. Don't ever let anyone take that from you. They will remember you if they are really worthy of your attention.
"I walk softly through life" is a favorite quote of mine by Carl Rogers, a humanist psychologist. I am quite shy, have a soft voice, and often felt "bulldozed" (my term) by people in a group. My contributions or ideas were usually referred to as "Somebody said this, I don't remember who..." So your memoir touched me at a deep level and I feel I understand it.
That overlooking, self-erasing quality that hieronimo speaks of are qualities I had until I read that quote by Carl Rogers. Then I began to see myself as person who made contributions, but in a quiet way.
I will tell you as many times as you need to hear it, You are important, HopeInPain. I will remember you. You have made an impact on my life with your honest memoirs, which show great courage and strength. I always look forward to reading them and hope for the best for you.
unknownunknown116 is absolutely right when she says that people will remember you if they are worthy of your attention. Choose wisely who you surround yourself with and you will be amazed at the attention you will receive.
As my self esteem grew, I found I was able to pay less and less attention to those who tried to ignore me or diminish my worth. You will find this too as you begin to see yourself in a new light. Words are powerful, especially written words. Write yourself into remembrance and never let yourself forget who you are!
these six words leapt out from the sermon I heard in church this morning. Thanks Pastor Jodi. (I attend a Baptist church which has two lady ministers on the pastoral team.)We can live with peace and joy no matter...
