Anxious in large crowds. They're everywhere.
Backstory
This crowd anxiety is a hard thing to admit. Many times people I know (who don't feel this way) have a difficult time understanding and don't know what to do to help me feel comfortable. Sometimes I don't even know what to do. Part of me really wants to go sports events or concerts, but the thought of all those people leaves me breathless. My overall feeling is that I just want someone to hold my hand. But that is too big a job for anyone. They just want to go to the event to have fun and I certainly don't blame them. That is, after all, what I want too.So....I think I will start small. I will hold my own hand while crossing the street. Go from there.

My hand is outstretched ....But you may not want to go with me. :-P Last time I took a friend with crowd anxiety to a busy bar, she was a bit concerned about walking through the crowd. I told her to hold my hand and follow right behind me because I was gonna see how many fine cowboy butts I could pat / squeeze along the way. She thought I was joking, but I managed to get 15 in. But it was so crowded the squeezee had not idea who did it .... and since she was behind me she could see their reactions. By the time we were through the crowd she was laughing so hard she forgot about the crowd. We had a grand time dancing the night away ! :-)

The good news is this uncomfortable condition can diminish over time. (Take it from one who's been there.) You've already made a start!catsmeow says,
I live in Alaska for a reason.Dragonflower says,
Thanks for the encouragement. It has helped. Sometimes just admitting something is troublesome sheds a new light on it. Here's the thing. Someone special to me is going to sing the national anthem (USA) at a local sports arena. The arena and team are new so it is kind of a big deal. After posting my anxiety memoir and receiving positive energy from you all, I now have a plan. I can do this! I can attend!MO_Thoughts2: You all come with me and we'll pat some nice athletic rear ends! The athletes are mostly 7ft tall, so it will be like patting them on the back, right?? hehe.
I'll let you know how it goes later this week. If not so good, I'm moving to Alaska....
