True story: my friend's parents owned a small hotel next door to an Italian restaurant. My friend's mother was also Italian, and a marvelous cook. One day, her father came home from a meal at the restaurant next door and said, "Rose makes the best meatballs I've ever had."

My friend's mother lived out the rest of her days without ever making another meatball for her husband.
