I had a college friend who was the offspring of a Catholic mother and a Jewish father. Their home was a hotbed of sociocultural education, to say the least. I was at their house for dinner one evening diring Hannukah. The Jewish grandma from Jersey was visiting for the holidays and had taken the lead in the kitchen. Everyone had just been seated and dinner was underway when my friend started kicking me under the table. "I forgot to warn you about the food. It isn't really seasoned. Don't say anything." Well, of course I wouldn't have said anything, the food tasted great and I became an instant fan of kugel. It was a savory kugel and seemed to me to be the Jewish comfort food equivalent of mac-n-cheese. My friend is now a lawyer in D.C., doesn't cook, but married a gourmet chef. I'll bet his kugel doesn't hold a candle to Grandma's.
these six words leapt out from the sermon I heard in church this morning. Thanks Pastor Jodi. (I attend a Baptist church which has two lady ministers on the pastoral team.)We can live with peace and joy no matter...

That sounds delicious and way better than kegels, which is what I first thought of.marymc says,
Savory kugel sounds way better than the sickeningly sweet sugar/noodle/frosted flakes mess my MIL serves.L2L3 says,
Never had the sweet stuff. Wouldn't hold up against my memory.
