Heard teenage poetry last night. Mesmerizing.

Dragonflower says,

I'm trying hard these days not to put disclaimers on ages. I believe you can be talented at any age. Having said that, I was amazed at the poetry these high school junior and seniors wrote and performed. It was done theatrical style, not just straight reading. I went, thinking it would be all angst and anger, invoking parent guilt, but it was deep and thoughtful and, most of all, true. I'd experienced everything (almost) that they wrote about. I never could express it like that when I was a teenager. I can't express it even now. They helped me so much to put words to all those dormant feelings I've had and to empower teenage-hood. So I want to mention they were teenagers as an honor to them, not as a disclaimer.

I've been teaching a creative writing class this semester. I'm consistently blown away by some of the amazing stuff my high schoolers write. It's been a very affirming experience.
