This blonde won't be screwing lightbulbs.

Backstory

Growing up I was taught that a penny saved was a penny earned. And so every night before bed we would unscrew the lightbulbs to all the holiday candles that adorned our windows. It saved money. And every day just before dusk my brother or I would walk to every window of our house and screw those bulbs back in.

Well, I'm all grown up now. Lets just say that on the list of holiday memories that one falls well below burning the roof of my mouth on a homemade tartlet. And the way I see it I've found a few cents in my couch cushions this year and even a dollar or two in the dryer. So all those pennies I'd be saving by running around from window to window screwing lightbulbs have been prepaid.

Merry Christmas. Screw the screwing lightbulbs.

Love the last sentence, too. Perfect.

It's kind of oddly comforting to read about other families with weird traditions. I'm glad your family is passing on passing it down.
