I've been absent for medical reasons, but because I no longer have a 504/IEP plan they aren't accepted as valid excused absences.
Said teacher that sent this specific email refuses to accept any of my late work that should be accepted in the time frame that I got it done vs the amount of days I missed.
He was the first teacher to suggest that I "didn't belong in a normal school setting and should consider applying for one of the alternative schools in town" after the 2nd week of school. And on the days that I am at school (typically averaging 3 out of 4 days a week that I have his class) he states "and look who actually decided to show up today" when going through attendance.
So I kinda think a smart ass response is okay here, he has made it very clear he doesn't want me in his class and that I am on the top of his list of kids he is trying to have removed from the class
As someone who has taught, I tell my students to please keep me informed of any extenuating circumstances regarding their attendance or assignments. So when a student who was respectful, who handed in assignments and showed up to class told me his roommate died, of course I was understanding. When another blew off all the assignments, was rude, showed up at my office hours the last week of the semester and told me I was ruining her life, then faked a heart attack and harassed me at home to change her grade... well... I got a tad snarky back. But NEVER did I was that way in front of the rest of the class. AND this young woman was in grad school, not high school. Quite honestly, I would go over his head and report him to the administration. His comments are out of line.
High school is a source of agony for many...for reasons as varied as the individuals it affects. The upside is, it isn't forever. I don't mean to sound unsympathetic, but in the grand scheme of things it's a very short, small segment of a whole life. I always told my kids, "get through, get out, and go beyond." You can't fix stupid, or narrow-minded, or cloistered bias and general unkindness...you can only leave it behind and learn to avoid it in the future.
these six words leapt out from the sermon I heard in church this morning. Thanks Pastor Jodi. (I attend a Baptist church which has two lady ministers on the pastoral team.)We can live with peace and joy no matter...

Yet another reason I hate academia. The interests of the students are NEVER the first priority.BecomingLogyn says,
