Six Words and MMO

1216790778_72f76feab4_m.jpgIt’s a six, six world. Bloggers keep working the six-word story form in new, wild, wonderful ways—ways that are indeed “not quite what we were planning”—that delight us each day. A blogger named Sarah posts that her neighbor gave her the book as a thank you for looking after his house while he was away. Teachers across the world continue to use six-word storytelling as a writing tool. But the geeks shall always inherit the earth, and all its six-ly goodness.

To wit: A blogger named Oakstout heard Rachel and me on the Alan Colmes show and writes:

I was listening to Alan answer calls from people offering up their own six-word messages about life, I thought, wouldn’t it be great if you could find a way to sum up an MMO [ed. note: that's massively multiplayer online games, for those not quite so deep geek] in a similar way? So, of course, trying to stay awake, I came up with a few:

World of Warcraft
Wow is fun, grinding is not.

Everquest 2
Life isn’t laggy, EQ2 shouldn’t be.

LOTRO
We make game, you make music.

Oakstout’s take on six continues here.

I recently had this posted on a class I’m taking at college and thought I’d give it a try.

Samira, Ama’tae, Nazima, Talibah, Woman, Me.

Samira- is a name with background in India and Hebrew. In its fictitious meaning based in John Norman’s “Books of Gor” and the Gorean culture online it means “One who tells stories by moonlight”

Ama’tae- is a name found on a Dungeons and Dagons D&D naming website. Its an elvish character name meaning ama- “beautiful” and tae- meaning “beloved”

Nazima- is another name with background in foreign cultures and I can’t remember which right now. Again in its fictitious meaning based in John Norman’s “Books of Gor” and the Gorean culture online it means “Poetess”

Talibah- is another name with background in foreign cultures and I can’t remember which right now. Again in its fictitious meaning based in John Norman’s “Books of Gor” and the Gorean culture online it means “Seeker of knowledge”

and the obvious woman and me are things that will never change and things I’ve been all my life kind of ties it all together.

The concept is very interesting, trying to sum up so much in just six little words. MMO’s by nature aren’t small things and to describe them in those terms is a challenge.

I’ve not picked up your book yet, but I’ll be hitting Amazon soon for my copy. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Warhammer Online
Apologies now to Blizzard’s Bank Manager.

Ok, WAR might not be the demise of World of Warcraft, but after 6 month in this enthralling Beta I’m convinced that WoW gamers will be tempted over by the far superior content.

John was born, then he died.
There he was, now he’s not.
I was happy, now I’m sad.
We all cried, quite a lot.

Never had kids. Got dog instead.

This is not a dress rehearsal
