About the Contest

Whether you are a mother or just have one, everyone has a six-word mom story to tell—a "six-word momoir." SMITH Mag is teaming up with truuconfessions and Postcards from Yo Momma for a new six-word challenge. Truuconfessions will choose the best six-word story about parenting, while the editors of Postcard from Yo Momma will award the prize for the best six-word story about your relationship with your own mom. Both winners will get signed copies of all three books, plus artistic validation and Internet fame. Three runners-up will win one book of their choice.

Six-Word Memoirs

The Six-Word Memoir project launched on SMITH Magazine in November 2006, and has since become an international phenomenon. Our first book, Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous & Obscure, is a New York Times bestseller, and has been featured in The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, and NPR. The follow-up. Six-Word Memoirs on Love & Heartbreak, is a national bestseller. This September, HarperTeens will publish Six-Word Memoirs by Teens Famous & Obscure.

True Mom Confessions

Based on the best of nearly 500,000 posts on the hit web site, truuconfessions.com, True Mom Confessions: Real Moms Get Real is heartfelt and hilarious, naughty and nasty, frank and outrageous. The confessions culled together for this book represent the best—or the worst?—of those humbling hidden secrets of motherhood in all its glorious messiness as improvisation and triage.

Postcards From Yo Momma

Sweet, funny, endearing, and sometimes technologically inept, the missives from mothers to their adult children published on Postcards From Yo Momma have been entertaining hundreds of thousands of moms and their kids since March 2008. This April, Hyperion published a book with over 200 never-before-seen emails, IMs and text messages called Love, Mom: Poignant, Goofy, Brilliant Messages from Home, which the New York Times called "funny (not snarky), touching, even heartwarming."
