I haven't watched for years, but what I used to like were the dates. That's what I want. Shallow as that might be. A fancy dancy date intended to impress me. I know, I know...but just once???
I know I'm going off on a tangent here, but I'm glad the word 'batchelorette' has come into fashion because I find it kinda sexy and I hate 'spinster'.
Spinster has real negative connotations. In stories, the spinster was always the woman who nobody wanted, nobody would marry. A spinster schoolteacher was often a character. And there was a warning to young ladies that they better find someone to marry them, or they'd end up like old "Name of spinster person". Sag is right, it is usally an older person, but back in the day, they called you a spinster if you weren't married by age 30. That was kinda of the cutoff point. After that--forgetaboutit. It is an old timey word/phrase. From an era were considered nothing unless they had a husband.
It does just sound bad though, doesn't it, even without know why? I think there is a name for words like that--where the sound describes the word. I can't begin to spell it correctly - phonetically, ota-mata-pea - something like that, if I'm remembering right; for example "splat". Spinster isn't one of those words, but it sure sounds bad just on its own. There should be a special word for ones like that too!
I should apply. You never know, maybe you guys could have a face to my memoirs.
I will always believe in love. Even if it has come and gone, it still came once upon a time, and if it came once it can come again.
I hope that you do apply, it could be fun. I saw a movie but cannot remember the title. A woman applies to a show like this (as a jounalist, maybe??) just to get the details of how it works, but then falls in love for real. It was a good, rainy, Saturday afternoon movie.
Mid fifties, married thirty years. My husband has sweetly asked me to try to outlive him, because he doesn't want to face life alone.
His odds are pretty good. Both our mothers (still living!) outlived our fathers. And our grandmothers...

I know what you mean, Autumn! And Sagacious, what's a spinster?
Sagacious says,
An unmarried woman- usually (but not necessarily) an older one. I think bachelorette normally applies to someone fairly young.unknown116 says,
Well I agree, spinster isn't the most appealing word, whether you know the meaning or not.Dragonflower says,
