Prefer undressing him. Today dressed him.

Backstory

Undressing him and pouncing on James, my love of 28+ years would have been my first choice. Today, his pain was so bad that he had to lay on the floor to try and get dressed. His legs are weak and the tumor is pushing on his spine so the floor was the only way he could get into his pants and socks. I went over and started helping him as he moaned in pain. Even a month ago, he would not have allowed me to do this for him. Today, my gesture had as much love and reciprocal love in it as our old "pouncing" days. Sometimes, love changes the way it can be expressed.
Later on, his wheelchair arrived.

I favorite because of the love. I was just telling someone the other day about one of my loves. They had taught him many things in physical therapy but picking his own nose was not easily in his range of motion...I still loved him even when I had to perform "unusual tasks".
I wonder sometimes if I'd have the strength to do what I had back then but taking on his total care was rather foolish of me.
I hope he finds as much comfort in the chair as possible and having you you love and love him so dearly is a beautiful gift...not just to you both, but to everyone who gets to share in your love by reading you.

Dragonflower says,

I was pretty sick two years ago and the thing I learned was that to let someone help me was a real act of love. Both on my part, to allow someone to see me so helpless and weak, and on the part of whoever was helping me, just offering their strength and abilities in what are basically simple tasks. I am well now and my favorite thing to do is go to Safeway and refill my water bottles because I remember so clearly the day I couldn't even lift them into the car (the 1-gallon jugs--not the big one!!). I admire you taking such splendid care of the man you love! Special thoughts to you.

Your love both humbles and exhaults me. Thank you for sharing your continuous story.

canadafreeze says,

- thank you for sharing your story and the power of love.

Wench says,

The two of you are the most beautiful love story. I don't know many people who are truly, deeply in love. I am glad that you have that. When I think that my parents may live well into old age never once knowing what it felt like to love each other, I think of you two. I am so sorry that this is happening to you and James, I can't imagine. But I am so glad that you love each other the way you do.

oh DD

lillybrook says,

Exactly, Level1. This is beautiful and yet I am oh so sad. If we knew each other, I would hug you.
