Shekia & I were acquaintances in high school. She once did me a favor & cleaned out my locker. I yelled at her for this. Till this day, I do not know why I responded that way. Fast-forward 15 years, we reacquaint on facebook. I apologize for my arrogance. She accepted. After my 5th relationship collapsed & my inability to find someone who loves me I take on the pseudonym "The Hopeless Romantic". Two more years pass. A recently engaged friend of mine tells me, "When you find someone who loves you, you should hold on to that person". I visited Shekia. While standing on her front porch I fought the urge to kiss her. I gave in. She tells me, "That is what I've always wanted". I now know that this is the girl for me & I'm holding on tight.
Mid fifties, married thirty years. My husband has sweetly asked me to try to outlive him, because he doesn't want to face life alone.
His odds are pretty good. Both our mothers (still living!) outlived our fathers. And our grandmothers...
