I've heard it said that sometimes it's the arguments that keeps couples together. And sometimes after the separation, the arguments are a way of not yet letting go. I think it happens for everyone. It's part of the process. Painful, but maybe necessary.
Mid fifties, married thirty years. My husband has sweetly asked me to try to outlive him, because he doesn't want to face life alone.
His odds are pretty good. Both our mothers (still living!) outlived our fathers. And our grandmothers...
