"...he was known to sharply bite..."

Backstory

When she of iridescent wing
was bid by reigning spider king
to disregard the look of him,
approach his lair and enter in,
she paused.

For he was known to sharply bite
when those who come to him at night
look only in his whirling eyes
without seeing, through pretty lies,
his claws.

With tongue and touch he thus entices
such willing hearts with love’s devices,
drawing close enough to wrap
their tender flesh in the silken trap
he baits.

So she will keep herself apart.
With wings she shields her throbbing heart,
luxuriates in dreams of bliss,
anticipates the spider kiss--
she waits.
