This weekend, my sister, nephew and I pushed an elderly gentleman's car off the busy road and into a safer parking area. He said he had been sitting there for about half an hour waiting on the tow truck.
My Chinese student of English as a second language arrived too frazzled to focus at our last tutoring session. He has a lot of worries. We just talked. Our chat seemed to help, at least for a while.
I held the door open for a guy with a big box going into the Fed Ex store. I saw him struggling with it from the parking lot and waited at the door fir him. He mumbled something. I think it was "Thanks". They wouldn't let him mail his package because it was too beat up. Said the automatic arms that move it, would crush it.
Today I ran into the chairman of our theater company in the building where they rent space for storage. (I was there for something else.) She was beside herself over the chaotic condition of the store room, and overwhelmed by the thought of trying to fix it. I said, "what can I do for you right now, in this moment, that can help?" Then I offered to take a large storage bin of misc. sewing patterns and sort them, culling out the useless junk and disposing of it, and organizing the rest. It's a small thing, given the scope of the clean-up, but it's a start.
I helped an old lady exit a building. I was walking down the street and noticed she was having a hard time getting the door open,it looked like she was pushing it on the wrong side. So, although I had already passed, I went back and opened the door for her. She was appreciative.
Then two doors down I saw someone entering a store and drop their hat on the ground as they entered. Again, although I had already walked past, I stopped and went back to pick up the hat and bring it into the store.
I posted a memoir later that day: Becoming engaged is a conscious choice. I could have just kept walking but I stopped and interacted with two people unsolicited and it felt good.
I love reading the different stories! The last person I helped was a student: b/c of the way my school is set up, I have a class period of E2020, which is a computer lab of students all working on different subjects to remediate subjects they failed in the past. I'm an ELA teacher, but today I helped a student with her stoichiometry in Chemistry (which is the unit she has been on for a couple of weeks, so I'm becoming a stoichiometry expert). My brain hurts.
a while back a friend of mine was suddenly thrust into a situation that caused financial difficulties and i loaned him some money. since then his life has (thankfully) taken a much better turn. was talking to him about two weeks ago and he said, "i haven't forgotten that i need to pay you back." i told him that i wanted him to pay it forward instead of paying me back, and to ask those who he helps to also pay it forward when they are able.
I helped Mother Earth by throwing stuff in the trash. Down by the beach, people will leave their drink cups anywhere or just drop wrappers on the ground. Did this on Sunday. So this isn't exactly a person I helped, but it made the area nicer for other people that day.
I love these. It's awesome to know that there are helping hands everywhere.
My friend tweeted that she was having a bad day. I messaged her and told her I had had one too. But the only thing was that we could do was to move forward. We talked about the stresses of school and she told me she felt better.
I'd only just arrived at a local train station after doing some shopping and noticed a purse on one of the seats. I handed the purse to the station master immediately. This happened about 2 hours ago. I hope the station master managed to contact the owner so it could be returned to her.
The other day, I helped a younger friend of mine to stay on this earth and to tell her mom about past abuse and get it reported. It's going to be a long road but she's doing much better.
Helped a school get free books on Sunday, 500! I ran an event that raised the money to buy them.

I left an inspirational random message on a table, for anybody who perhaps was having a bad day. I hope my note brightened their day.Sagacious says,
