Dragonflower says,

It's writing with a pen and paper. Something happens when my words flow from my heart through my fingers writing. Its like someone is speaking to me. That doesn't happen when I type.

I used to use pen and paper but now it's almost always fingers and keyboard. It's better for me because I can read what I've typed much better than I can read what I wrote by hand when I go back to edit.

illuminatrix says,

I love writing by hand, but I usually end up typing, only because I can do it much much faster. Even though I can type really quickly, it's still difficult keeping up with the speed of thought. When I write by hand, I seem (strangely) more prone to get off track.
Also, I try to vary my background (using an online word processor sometimes that has a black background and font that you can change to any color, otherwise it's extremely minimal, meaning no distractions. I've sixed about this before) and fonts. That said, I find it really helpful to print and revise with paper in hand, although I've been lazy and haven't bothered in a while.
I usually get a drink (coffee, tea, what have you) sat right beside me before I sit down for a good session.
Also, although not really a ritual, but something I've noticed. If my fingernails get a tad too long, I really hate the feel of the keyboard, but after I cut them, it's like a bird uncaged. Feels great.
This is an excellent question, I hope more people respond so we can all compare notes and weirdnesses. Thanks l8leigh!
