So what makes a GOOD teacher?

Backstory

According to one of my he-roes Bill Gates (for his philanthropy) he points out these factors:

Engagement
Interaction
Performance Orientated

(I'm a primary school teacher -sounds like good advice!)

Wench says,

My favorite teacher of all time was Mr. Rauscher - a second generation Irishmen who taught poetry. I probably can't even explain half of what I loved about him so much, but I think the biggest thing was that he believed what he was teaching. It was a living, breathing part of him. When he spoke about Dylan Thomas or John Donne, his love for writing exuded from him. It was inspiring. He approached everything with love - his class and his students and his family and everything. There wasn't a single student, I don't think, in his classes, who didn't feel like on a personal level, he cared about what happened to them. I never felt like he crossed the line into being too involved or too personal for his professional job, but he always felt like somebody safe. Ten years after classes with him, I found his email and sent him a message to let him know that I've got a family now and I'm doing alright and that he is someone I think about and thank God for all of the time.

One who understands that kids learn differently. Different does't mean dumb. Someone who instills the love of learning.

marymc says,

My 2 favorite teachers made me want to live up to the potential they saw in me. They were very different people. My writing teacher was nurturing and kind. My art teacher was brutally honest. I thrived in both classes.

(ThanX Mary, Mo & Wench for the input!)

P.S. Don't forget, Beyonce has been great re: female empowerment, no?

Dhani says,

Ooops! The above was to be posted to 'who's hotter than Beyonce?', sorry!
