Is New Years midnight like time-travel?

Backstory

This is something I can never get my head around. It happens every year, but I can't grasp the idea that people are celebrating New Years at different times. I know--of course I can, its a simple concept, but it baffles me when I think about it. It feels like some people are living in the future already. I can't even explain it very well, I get tongue-tied. Maybe it is because this one event happens sequentially - unlike watching a ball game, for example, in a different time zone, where we're all watching together--just at different times. I probably overthink it. Does anyone else?

PS. I do realize this happens everyday. My today is already someone's tomorrow. Its just I only think about it on New Years Eve with the global celebration and all.... Happiest New Year, everyone!
