What is/are your favorite fairy tale(s)?
Backstory
This question was inspired by today, 12/20/12, being the 200th anniversary of the first edition of 'Grimm's Fairy Tales.” I read a lot of fairy tales as a child, including the Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen.I came across research a while back that said that your favorite fairy tale(s) as a child was indicative of your character and/or what was important to you, both then and as an adult.
My two favorite fairy tales (both by the Brothers Grimm) are 'Faithful John" and "The Six Swans,' (which is similar to Hans Christian Andersen's 'The Wild Swans.') Both fairy tales have the common theme of loyalty and sacrifice and ‘Faithful John’ is also about friendship. In my case, the research is eerily accurate.

Most of the fairy tales gave me nightmares as a child. Especially the Three Little Pigs. And most especially Snow White. But if the Ugly Duckling qualifies as a fairy tale, I always liked that one.favepeep says,
Ms. K: The Snow Queen is also about friendship!Autumn: I think I was about 10 when I started reading a lot of them on my own, so the scariness factor was reduced because I could stop if I didn't like the story. Though I was easily scared by movies, TV and even ads in the paper for scary movies. I'm still sensitive and have a lot of empathy for children who are as well!

I like this question section because it makes me think and remember. Sleeping Beauty was my favorite fairy tale and I had a Colorforms kit with those plastic stick-on things. I've wanted to be Malificnent for Halloween for probably 10 years but never had the nerve. I have a Malicifent doll I put out every Halloween. Why she didn't scare me, I'll never know!!favepeep, thanks for making me feel more normal! When my daughter was little there was a commercial for a ride at Great America (in CA) called The Grizzly and it started out with a big ol' growling grizzly bear that scared me to pieces. I wrote to Great America and complained and they sent me back a letter, apologizing. I have that letter in one of her baby books, to show her I tried to protect her from scary stuff on TV!! She became a HUGE fan of the scary movie genre!!! Go figure!

I have rewrites of the traditional Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, and Rapunzel tales that my friend and I worked on together....I'm rather partial to them.
