I would say a little of both. More attention must be paid to people who have a mental illness. Much more follow up and making sure these individuals are taking their medication. A lot could have been avoided. Our Government is not paying close attention to people who desperately need help. Unless some things change, we will continue to see tragedies of this magnitude.
(In our courts it may be an 'excuse'.) The real problem is for America to cease (because of budget costs)placing the mentally insane in our PRISONS instead of Mental Health Centers!
Neither. It doesn't explain anything and it isn't an excuse. I think most truly tragic situations cannot be explained and there isn't an excuse. It just is. So let's not label it; let's learn from it and act.
Also, how do we keep guns out of the wrong hands? I don't know that we can, honestly. I am saddened to hear that people are grabbing up all the assault rifles they can because they're afraid they'll be banned after the Newtown killings. REALLY? I've never owned a gun, but I''m starting to think I should get one just so I'll be on a level playing field with everyone else. Never thought those words would come out of MY fingers...
