Best - my first camera. Worst - an ugly sweater. It wouldn't have been so bad, ugly sweaters show up at a lot of Christmas parties. But it was a very cheap ugly sweater that my step-grandfather bought for me the same year he bought his 'real' grandchildren all iPods. It was the contrast in gifts more than the gift itself that sucked.

When I was 10 I got 2 sewing baskets from my 2 aunts, because they didn't speak to each other. I had zero interest in sewing. Much more recently, I received a strand of pearls from the man I love with all my heart.

Dragonflower says,

I have had lots of great Christmas gifts, but I think my best ones were Nancy Drew books when I was probably 11. I got a bunch of them. They were great because we always went to the library and never bought books. I liked everything about them. How they felt, how they smelled, how I could read them over and over. My worst was a big vase from a sweetheart. No flowers ever that long of stems. It wasn't attractive--as in I could use it just as decor sans flowers. It was the combo disappointment of opening a big box and also that I desired something more sweet from a sweetheart. It was like he didn't know me at all.

Best one -- a book from my aunt about the Wild West. I was about 11. The cover was stamped leather.

Worst - Once had boyfriend who made a huge deal out the tiny box under the tree. Told me several times about how happy I'll be when I open it. It was a pair of $20 earrings from the mall kiosk .. with the receipt in the box because they had an "earring back replacement guarantee". Now before you get judgemental, one should note he made considerably more than that in an hour. Funny thing is I would have refused a ring from him since I was just trying to play nice through the holidays. Just verified how much of a schmuck he was in my head.
