Ways to pass dark winter nights?

Backstory

I took a nap at 4:30 and woke up at 5:30. It was already pitch-black out. These days are so hard for me to get through. I'm feeling it more than ever this year with everything that's happened and how far from home we are. It's possible we will be asking to break our lease (the lease allows for this with two month's rent) and moving back to Philadelphia. That would mean packing and moving again in the next two weeks. Still no work, but better prospects there. Everything about these days is a permanent leap of faith.

All of my getting-through-the-winter methods since I started noticing SAD have been unhealthy. For my son, for myself, I need to try to stay upbeat but it's really hard for me. I miss the sunlight. What do you do to keep yourself chipper during these dark days?

i know you made constantine's frodo costume. do you knit or crochet? i crochet, and i find the process itself both absorbing and relaxing. hot chocolate is another thing i enjoy in winter. oh, and chili put in the crockpot first thing in the morning to heat on low all day and fill the house with the delicious aromas of onions, cumin, etc....boy, the food motif is expanding here, huh? i know what you mean, because i hate the cold and the early darkness too. i don't know if any of these suggestions are helpful at all, but i do wish you luck!

Watch YouTube videos, I suggest channels: nigahiga, fouseytube, wigs, paint, or if you're into Harry potter search my immortal. Those are all bound to crack you up :)

We try to have at least one winter party and several dinners. Having friends over makes us feel more alive. But then so does a fire in the fireplace and movie night under the blankets.
