I don't like your chances of making Most Commented with this one. How about "Fragile land on edge of precipice". Hardly inspirational, but I'm more scared than inspired these days.

jl333 says,

My boss just relocated to Australia. I'm going to e-mail them with this question, and when they respond, I will post their answers. It might be neat to see what American's, now Aussies, think of Australia!

jl333 says,

Okay, the family I worked for who relocated to Australia, just got back with me. Here goes:

10 year old boy says:

Deadly and dangerous animals in Australia
Cities to sea and dangerous animals

12 year old girl says:

Beautiful country with sites to see

Friends say:

Friends come visit and go
Mate, heaps, good on ya, stuffed
White tail, red back, funnel web
Recken, buggar all, servo, pissed, tipple
Kangaroos, bats, Koalas, wombats, tasmania devil
Cockatoo, King Parrot, Lorikeets, Flying Fox

*Some of these things I have no idea what they mean but this is what they came up with!

thesagittarian12 says,

How about I translate a handful of these. White tail, redback and funnel web are venomous spiders. "Pissed" means inebriated. "Tipple"- to drink alcohol. "Servo" is what I think the Yanks call a gas station. "Bugger all" is not many. "Stuffed" means tired.

thesagittarian12 says,

My grammar is awful. Perhaps that third last sentence should have read "A 'servo' is a service station. I think you Yanks call them a 'gas station'". Good. That gets rid of that unintended double-meaning.

jl333 says,

Thanks for the translation Sagacious! You touched base on most of the words that I didn't know. They must have been throwing out random words that were new to them.

ba_miracle says,

Where I'm from "pissed" means really mad, "stuffed" being full of food (or other bad street slang I'll leave out for today)

I thought "bugger" was a curse word?(Pink Floyd being my first introduction to the word)

Sagacious has taught us the word "removalist" (can't spell check it;-) we "Yanks" say "movers" but hardly ever call ourselves "yanks" except now that I live in the southeast of America...been called a Yankee more than a few times.

thesagittarian12 says,

I don't particularly like the word "Yank", but it's either that or "American" and I get a little tired of always using that word. If there's another word for Americans I might consider using it. "Pissed" (short for "pissed off") means really mad here, too.

KharisJo says,

Eucalyptus in rain, my heart sings.

Outback unfurled in blaze of ochre.

Cacophany of kookaburras welcomes the dawn.

Forty mile beach without another person.

Mirrabooka - Southern Cross, our heavenly compass.

Tough, tender, friendly, funny, loving Aussies.

and (according to "Down Under" Men at Work) Where women glow and men plunder.....

Dhani says,

I'm not Australian, but a dear friend who traveled the world & visited almost every country except those that were not permitted entry by a US citizen, said Australia was the greatest country he had ever visited.

Amapola says,

Yellow snakes are real. Awesomeness too.

Amapola says,

(I'm not Australian, but I was there and this is my story).

e.towhee says,

Amapola, the comments of those who have visited Australia are as welcome here as the comments of those who live or have lived there.

My thanks to all you others for your comments.

oopsalittle says,

e.towhee says,
