Can you learn from others' mistakes?

Backstory

I often wonder if people truly can learn from others' mistakes or if most are like me and have to learn it the hard way.

Depends on the person. I have learned a lot from observation. Some people believe they are invincable therefore the faults of other's do not apply to them, some see bad things and acquire them even if they do not mean to, some (like myself) watch, learn, and avoid putting themselves into similar situations. Sometimes it is hard to avoid situations, but you need to know that you are no more special than anyone else. Rules and statistics still apply to you. Keep your eyes open. You can learn from yourself and others. Keep that in mind.
