We had an vending machine that had ice cream, but whoever stocked it would put the ice cream too far back into the slots. My hands and fingers were small and double jointed enough to get them. I sat with some of the other "nerdy" kids (I was smart, quiet and played in the orchestra), but the jocks knew I could get their ice creams. There was one in particular that I admired from afar, but didn't have the courage to talk to. But one day he needed help getting his ice cream and his football friend knew I could get it. So I did. He smiled, brushed his hand on mine and said thank you. Then about once a week after that he would need "help" getting his ice cream. Sometimes he would even get me before he got to the machine, because he "knew" he would need help Those times he bought me one also. But we never spoke anywhere but in front of that ice cream machine. I don't him remember his name now, but do remember that blond hair, blue eyes and smile that melted me.
