I like the part in "Movin' Out" when he goes "workin' too hard can give you a heart attack yakyakyakyakyak. I know that doesn't answer your question, but I had an overwhelming need to share that.
until the night
uptown girl (this one just makes me feel good. also, when i listen to it i hear a tribute to the 4 seasons, another group i like a lot.)
From Long Island originally, and when he sings Down'easter Alexa, he sings about all the things I grew up with. My husbands dad was a bayman and my mom shucked.
When I was 17, it was Only the Good Die Young. When I was in my 12th year of Catholic school I hooked up someone from a part time job I had. Still naked, he jumped up from the bed and grabbed his guitar and started singing that to me. I still smile when I think of that afternoon.
Now, though, I would have to say New York State of Mind. Since 9/11 the local radio stations always play that on the anniversary. Although it has come to be associated with that terrible day, it is really a great song about my wonderful state. The lyrics sum up the state beautifully. In its structure and delivery, it is very old fashioned. I think that's what I like best about it.
Somewhere Along the Line
You're My Home
Captain Jack
We Didn't Start the Fire
.... and It's All About Style (because I thought was so-o-o-o in love when the radio was playing that song).
The Piano Man LP is in my All-Time Top 10.
