What's the story behind your username?

Backstory

I'm genuinely curious to see why other people chose theirs. Mine started off as a nickname and it stuck.

TheAngstyPoet says,

TheAngstyPoet is another username for another site. So I kept it when I created my account at SMITH. It all started in high school when I wrote angry, sappy, teenage ansty poetry. Whenever I tried to show my mother a poem she sometimes wouldn't read it claiming it was too angry or angsty. It stuck and I called myself the Angsty Poet. If you need proof there's a link to my website on my profile page. Now I don't write like that. I'm more of a philosophical writer.

Contemplative says,

I am often lost in thought in a daydreaming kind of trance which could be from the bipolar or narcolepsy or just my character trait.

Through Dialectical Behavior Therapy I have learned to respond instead of react. In other words, to think about the consequences and outcome of a situation, taking my time, not necessarily engaging in action immediately. After much forethought, most of the times I no longer react, which in my case tends to be defensiveness, which I later tend to regret.

I also enjoy people watching and mindfulness which are somewhat synonymous. And that's the origin of my name "Contemplative".

Dean6805 says,

Mine has been a screen name for a long time. My first name, of course, coupled with what was at one time my work phone extension.

Sagacious says,

Mine has to do with an interest in philosophy and my star sign (Sagittarius). Sagacious is my third incarnation- the previous two all began with the letters s-a-g. I imagine my next pseudonym change (should there be one) will probably begin with those three letters too because I've become accustomed to being referred to as "Sag".

Wench says,

In high school, my boyfriend called me a bloody Irish wench . One day I made up the screenname to go with it. Then people just sort of started calling me Wench. I don't know how well it fits me, now, but I don't mind enough to change it.

SingerSomewhere says,

I'm in choir. Music and singing are my life. When I'm overwhelmed, stressed, happy, or sad, I get my guitar and just sing. It's my release and my escape. That's the Singer part. Then I just thought Somewhere sounded good with it. I liked the alliteration.

LadyMac says,

I didn't feel comfortable using my name and I've never had a nickname. When I was registering with SMITH, my cat was sitting in my lap so I just used an abbreviation of her full name: Lady Bailey MacWinklebean. And, yes, I realize that's a crazy cat lady thing to do.

Level1 says,

I am a Libra

marymc says,

It's my website.

MO_Thoughts2 says,

I live in Missouri.

tonyglim says,

My username is an anagram of the first eight letters of my real name.

jl333 says,

My name plus random numbers. Funny enough, I've been mistakenly called GL--seriously? It's only two fricken letters and you get half of them wrong?!? Geesh!

scribbling_scribe says,

I wanted a "writing" handle for here and another writing website that I joined, and frankly, scribbling just goes so darn well with scribe. The username I use most commonly is teritunes, which is a combination of my first name and my love of music and singing. A friend gave me the nickname many years ago and I love it!

DynamicDbytheC says,

Dynamic, speaks for itself, D first initial of my name, by the sea (I live near the Ocean in San Diego) but C flows/rhymes with D. I started using Dynamic when I would post my opinions on different stories. My opinions can be well.. opinionated.

Undermom says,

I've been using this name online since 1995 - when I'm not just being myself, anyway. It's a play on Underdog, from the cartoon that I was so very fond of as a child. I like seeing myself as a clumsy nerdy superhero.

"There's no need to fear, Undermom is here!"

BanjoDan says,

Dan, my first name, Banjo, my favorite musical instrument, which i have been playing for about 5 years but progress is slow!

Loon says,

short for Lunatic, a moniker bestowed upon me by those who best know me...

ba_miracle says,

It’s an older screen-name
ba_miracle = Be a Miracle. It is a reminder to myself (like a personalized version of “Be the Change You Wish to See in the World”)
Miracle is also a nickname and former stage-name.

I can be jaded regarding humanity, even my own so I need the constant reminder.

canadafreeze says,

I live in Canada and for many months of the year, I am cold. It started as a temporary username, but it kinda stuck. I get CF as a shortened version, and it like that.

MsKillie says,

I don't dig marriage, so I'll always be a Misses, but I do love my boyfriend with all my heart so I tagged his last name onto it!
I didn't want to use my real name here, since I have a crazy stalker (my ex's maybe baby mama. She used to write creepy memoirs on this site using my real name until Larry banned her and my lawyer sent my ex a nasty letter!).

bohemdeb says,

Bohem = Bohemian = free spirit. Plus, my ancestral roots are Czech and originated from Bohemia, when Bohemia was a country... My first name is Deb.. So, there's my story. :)

ctgoods2 says,

mine is pretty much my name - what you see is what you get

Amapola says,

Amapola comes from Amapola Blooming - that's my blogspot name and it refers to both my Dominican origins and my immigrant life. I've considered officially adding it to my first and second names Manuela Josefina. Here's the full explanation:

http://amapolablooming.blogspot.nl/2009/05/about-me.html

I like it when my Smith peeps call me Ama - as it's the third person conjugation of the verb amar (wich means to love in Spanish :-))

Toby_Reade says,

My username is the pen name under which a character in one of my favorite comic strips once wrote an autobiographical novel. (The title of the novel was "This Is Where I Live.")

Mourningdove says,

I'm a bird lover, I was sitting on my front porch joining this site in the early morning and had a cooing visitor. Thought it sounded like a good enough name.
