Sagacious says,

I'm not exactly excited about the carbon tax and the resultant rise in electricity price.

Wench says,

Spending $150 every two weeks on gas (we visit family a lot), husband's working full time at a good job and it's still barely enough to make ends meet. Do I put my baby in daycare and get a job at the gas station? 'Cause God knows, my BFA isn't doing me any good.

Unfortunately we are not doing our best thats for sure. Especially my young sons who were laid off. One finally got something but the other is still looking and collecting unemployment. He is not happy at all with recent happenings.

In 2006 I was a real estate agent in California, deciding whether to pursue a commercial designation or obtain my brokers license, married to a successful machinist who oversaw end of the line production on space tec type parts. My daughters future was fairly secure (as long as she put the effort forth to match).
Retirement plans well secured, insurance on every insurable thing/event. Some stocks, some property, plenty reserves, plenty available credit. I was active in the community and we were able to give back freely.

In 2007 I left my husband, he used a lot of our nest eggs to bail himself out of jail and defend himself in court.
I got a tiny ½ room apartment thinking it was temporary. Living and business expenses quickly ate up money and I began living off of credit. I got my brokers license, began training new agents and working triple time to get properties closed. Credit counselor said my only option would be BK and I thought “they don’t know me, I’ll get this together”. ahhhhhh

In 2008 Property closings were hardly happening, homes were underwater (including mine). My husband pled guilty, Investments gone, bills piling up, took a part time job for a friends company, took another job trashing out bank owned homes and made more money doing that than in real estate that year. Had to have a surgery in December that put me out of hard labor for over a month and everything fell apart. No more credit, no more closings, behind on everything, I was lucky enough to be eligible for food stamps but nothing else.

2009 My landlord had been going above and beyond to work with me but I just couldn’t catch up. Packed up my truck and moved to South Carolina to clean up our rental property and either get it ready for sale or cash flowing again. the plan was to stay at least a year and live in one.
I had a $500 check but couldn’t even open a bank account with a 380 Fico.
Got a part time job in retail.

2010 Put in notice at part time job, got promoted, (fell in love with a man) stayed a year.
2011 California house finally short sold. Put in notice at work (silly me), planned to go back to cali, ended up in hospital more than a little sick the day after packing boyfriends stuff in my truck to move him out (since he wasn’t going on his own). Sold my truck before it got reposed. Got another, paid cash. Took a bad loan on it in December to pay utilities and to help with my sick kitty.

2012 Trying to get an empty unit cleaned up and rented....again. I’m on my way to go list this property for sale today, I hope it’s not upside-down. I’d like to be back in California before the end of the year and divorced by next year (although the health insurance has come in handy).

In summery and in six...Not so good, I miss shopping :-o

Wow, thanks for sharing your stories. Sending positive vibes to everyone. It's tough out there. I'm in grad school after being laid off from my full-time job. With one year left they cut my loans without warning.
Fortunately, I managed to find temporary work, which should tide me over. Had to drop a couple classes, so it will take longer to finish. I need an outlet with more than six words for this -- maybe i should start a blog....

ba_miracle says,

It's your six words bohemdeb, back story away. Deciding to go back to school after a layoff, during this economy is certainly something many people would find interesting and it may even inspire someone to do the same. Do you qualify for any special grants?

One really good thing came out of that trying financial time...I quite smoking (a permanent positive change)

*of course not a reposed vehicle (I can't even afford the other letters;-)

accidentaltourist says,

I play Russian roulette with which things to pay....gas, food, loan payments.
