Rock-a-bye-baby is awful! I won't even sing it. But I was listening to some on YouTube today, and I didn't even know what most of them were talking about... like "This old man, he played one..."
Ha...three songs I sang as lullabies: "Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head," "You've Got A Friend," and "Sunshine, Lollipops, & Rainbows." My kids might need therapy.
This ones an oldie but my mother gave my baby a music box that played "Fly Me To The Moon" and I always sang that to him while rocking him to sleep. Still Have the music box and when I play it I start to cry. Why did they grow up? Sob!

Many were written as indirect political slurs, and many were written when childhood was not kind to children....health-wise or discipline-wise.MO_Thoughts2 says,
It is said that "Ring around the Rosie" is about the bubonic plague.@treehugger -- I sang RockABye Baby, but changed it to "and momma will catch baby, cradle and all"

I skipped all those with my son. I wrote my own rhymes and sang, "Baby baby" by Amy Grant and "The River" by Garth Brooks as lullabies.accidentaltourist says,
