Riding the school bus for 2 1/2 hours a day -- hour in the morning, 1 1/2 hrs in the afternoon. And made tolerable because Charlie and I sat together :-)
I'm a twin. My twin and I attended separate high schools. Our graduation happened to be on the same day. My graduation was first. My entire family and boyfriend attended. In the mad rush to quick get to my brothers graduation after mine, I got left behind and nobody even knew it! It was a 45 minute drive to my brother's graduation. Everybody else assumed I had gone with somebody else. My boyfriend was sent to go back and get me, but in the meantime, I had already found a ride (keep in mind this is before cell phones were out, so it's not like I could call and tell them not to bother coming back for me). I even wrote a memoir about it--'Didn't communicate, left behind at graduation'.
The summers I was 16-18 were spent at the Jersey Shore. I'd go to the beach everyday. Come back and clean up for work at 5pm scooping ice cream til 2am. Then a bunch of us would get a couple six-packs of cheap beer and go back to the beach and unwind. Up at 10am and do it all again.
Freshmen year, the first time I missed the bus. I panicked and called my MomMom (grandmother.) I asked her if she could drive me, she told me no to teach me a lesson. Looked in my wallet to make sure I had enough money and called the first cab of many. When I arrived, all my friends were stunned that I took a cab.
Walking home after a Beach Boys concert, shoes in hand, cutting across the golf course. Slipped off my nylons and walked barefoot through the grass. Lovely summer memory ...
Canadafreeze, you were foot loose and fancy free:)
