I bet alcohol was involved. I dislike family gatherings with a passion and rarely go at all. I went only to see my parents and they are gone now. A mix of heat and alcohol are not a good combination and these things and worse have happened frequently at "fun" gatherings.
wow, AT, i can certainly understand why you're upset! one would hope that a putative adult would have the self control to walk away when angry rather than throw a punch. i wonder if the person who did the punching realizes that their son could, in fact, press charges if he chose. hope the son is ok.
The son is okay. And the father has rationalized himself into believing he was justified. And the family acts today as if nothing happened. It still sickens and saddens me....to think they have decided, as a family, that THIS is proper conflict resolution. *sigh*
Abuse. My MIL grabbed her niece by the throat (twice), slapped her, and threw her across the room into a table on Mother's Day. In my mind, that kind of crap is abuse, no brainer, and beneath anyone who wants to be considered an adult, regardless of their age.
I watched my former MIL and her daughter get into a fist-fight at Thanksgiving many years ago. Today, I can't even tell you what the disagreement was about. But the horrific picture of them throwing punches has stayed with me. I did not grow up that way (the "family" I referred to was not mine).
Yeah, I cannot imagine what would have to occur for someone to hit someone else at a family gathering with my family.

Me too, tony. I am quite distraught. I never would have expected this. I am finding it very hard to like these people anymore.maryjane31 says,
