This happened to me and when I reported it they asked me if I could prove it! It's a long story, so I will just say NOTHING happened to the person who stole from me and I know it was her. To accuse someone you have to prove it, as that is what the law requires. I was heartsick.
I left a beautiful and expensive sweater that my husband had given me on the back of a chair for a few moments. I was in the Ladies room at work and when I came out the sweater was gone and so was this suspicious co-worker. She had gone home and I believe with my sweater! My fault I guess for leaving it out but who would dream anyone would take it.Everyone did help me as they said if they saw her outside of work and she had it on there was the proof.
That's awful! Any chance if you spread the word that it is not only a great sweater but has sentimental value that this colleague will feel some guilt (or maybe pressure) and it will magically appear again?
I had my purse stolen out of the employee breakroom. Since our floor could only be accessed by the use of employee badges, it had to have been taken by a co-worker but I have no idea who it might have been. I reported it to the building security. Neither the purse or it's contents were ever recovered and the thief was never discovered. I hate to admit it but everyone I worked with became suspect following that incident.
I decided not to. I confronted her with it, and she gave it back with the excuse that she thought it was hers. It was a very expensive stethoscope , that my husband gave me. I saved the box and had the serial number.
Good for you mourningdove.
I was going to say always report it and if you can stomach it (and I hope you could) Talk to the person you suspect. Nothing may come out of you reporting it but it will or should be on record somewhere.
Yes, as long as I KNEW they did steal. The stuff my coworkers and I have to take to work is expensive, and my boss would probably fire him/her.

Depends on what the coworker stole. If he stole my lunch, DEFINITELY. :-)ba_miracle says,
