Cannon balls in the pool, bird symphonies, children screeching and laughing while running through the lawn sprinklers, any outside music at the fair, thunder and lightening with a summer storm and crickets on a hot night.
I love the thunder showers in the evening down here in Florida. It cools things off and I sit out back on my lanai and watch. Love the smells here in Florida of sweet lilac and that wonderful smell after a rain. Also love the barbecue smell. I know it is summer. By the way, Florida does have seasons and it does have a winter. Just cooler temperatures. The winters down here are paradise.
Sorry, I (somehow) misread the question. TAKE 2: Waves pounding the shore. Listening to cricket on the radio. Hail banging against the window. Cicadas. The sound of thunder in the distance. The hum of my desk-fan keeping me cool.
@Maryjane, Florida sounds like a similar climate to Brisbane, winter setting in here and its mild and sunny. Summer (Dec-March)sounds- cicadas; magpies warbling at dawn; tropical storms; the absurdly ridiculous sounds of "winter wonderland" carols in 40deg heat;beach surf and my fav of all - the clink of ice cubes in a long tall glass as we cool down on the veranda as the sun sets and night brings relief from the heat.
My favorite 6 sounds: "I will Al-ways Love you." Granted, they are not quite what most people think of when pondering what they like, but to the person hearing those six sounds, they are quite beautiful. Keep the faith, D...
The ones I love are the ones I miss. The creak and slam of my grandmother's old screen door is one. The sound of music from a long-gone band drifting through open windows.
That's two...um....the wind in the trees just before it rains. The song of a single cricket. The ding of the bell on the door of an old country store. And lastly, something I only heard once....a husky voice in the dark, whispering, "Margarita, darling?"
The plop of a cork on the surface of a favorite fishing hole, thunder rumbling in the distance as a storm passes, the dull roar of a wave as it breaks near the shore, the chirpy tune of the Icee truck that passes our house, the buzz of a crowd at a festival, and the laughter of my children while we drench each other with water guns or balloons.
Since living in South Carolina...the sound of rain in summer
When I get back to California...the sound of my friends, laughing, negotiating and disagreeing over a barbeque and the wind in my ears from a quad, motorcycle or convertible. Beginning of Summer bonfire crackling at the Mission.
The sound of migrating Monarchs, if you are sitting quietly in the path...they will ignore you, surround you, land on you and go by the thousands....oh God I'm homesick
1. Birds calling each other through the mist after a rainstorm
2. The waterfall outside my window filled with sparkling water
3. The buzzing fan circulating a summer breeze through the room
4. The laughter of late nights hanging out with family, ignoring the curfew we used to have
5. The fizzy burst of air as I open yet another Sparkling Ice soda
6. The silence of freedom that hovers around my smile
crickets at night
beach sounds (waves, seagulls, people softly talking)
wind in the trees above me when I lay in the hammock
opening a bottle of beer
the ice cream truck
children playing
1. Jetskis
2. Sound of BBQ turning on.
3. Whirling of blender to make smoothies.
4. Crackling of a bonfire on the beach.
5. Kids sqealing with delight.
6. Waves at the ocean.
Waves hitting the shore.
The screen door slamming.
Breeze throught the trees.
The sound of the air conditioner coming on.
Windchimes.
The squeak of the hammock swinging.
the cracking sparks of a campfire at the beach, the laughter of my friends, ice rattling in my cocktail blender, doorbell announcing an spontaneous visit, the breaking wind as I bike through the dunes... and six... the very sound of my self enjoying all of this and more.
Wind before a storm, rain crashing down on the roof, folk-festival music (anything Dead is a good start), bottle caps on cold beer opening, the crackle of a bonfire, wind rushing past your ears as you speed down a rode on your bike.
A chorus of frogs singing
Crickets chirping
The buzz of bumblebees
Thunderstorms
Children laughing
Clothespins snapping on the line
