My list of summer food loves is endless...but strawberry rhubarb pie is probably one thing I only ever make or have in early summer, when the rhubarb comes in season here.
Dairy Queen. Where I grew up, Wisconsin, it was only open in summers when I was young. Cotton candy at the fair is another. Watermelon, bratwurst soaked in beer and sauerkraut on the grill, hot dogs and anything grilled.
Ah...Mary, yes. Right from the garden, ripe and warm. Peas in the pods, green beans from the vine. No veggies lacking in this growing kid's summer diet.
I misread the question. As for summer treat, I'm with Mary on that - a tomato eaten within minutes of being picked from the vine, still warm from the sun, sliced with nothing but a sprinkling of salt.
SMITH Magazine brings you an entirely new kind of six-word experience: Six-Word Questions. This is the place to pose a question to the SMITH community from, "What are your favorite Six-Word quotations" to challenging members to pen Six-Word Obituaries to the recently departed to Six-Word jokes and any other Six-Word question you can dream up. You can even request that the responses be in six words. Everyone has a question—what's yours?
