Nothing wrong with it at all! I feel that love doens't have silly boundaries on age, race, sex, etc. My issue is with the institution of marriage itself, in my opinion it's completely outdated and pointless. But, I would never take away the right to do it from anyone who wanted to.
I think we have too many other important issues to work through than to worry about who's marrying whom. Personally, I have a lot of work left to do on my own shortcomings before I feel justified in criticizing anyone else.
Why -- as a society -- are we even discussing "Gay Marriage" and whether it's okay? Why is the tag "Gay" even attached to this term? We all "drive" not "Gay-drive" our cars, I don't remember the last time I heard of someone going out for a "Gay" beer at the age of 21, or applying for a "Gay" passport, in lieu of a passport -- to go to Europe. Not sure when I've heard of someone filing their Last "Gay" Will & Testament... seriously? Marriage is an adult choice -- like many other socially sanctioned adult choices that we don't attach sexuality to.
We need another precedent for consenting adults who want to marry (an example) Loving v. Virginia regarding interracial marriage.
I agree wholeheartedly, it is sad that this is still an issue up for discussion and even sadder that some of the biggest opposition comes from god loving people.
Unfortunately those of us who feel this way are in the minority and even more troubling some do not feel "it's their fight".
Someday the majorities will respect the rights of those in the minority... I hope it is in my lifetime.
I'm 'gay' (hate that word, but I employ it for conversation's sake), and yet I still marvel how 'gays' will fight to the death over two corrupt institutions, namely marriage & war.
I also chuckle to myself whenever I see two MALE figures on a wedding cake, it strikes me as just plain silly ('gays' don't have to imitate heterosexual traditions & symbols, or do they?) but I'm sure it means a lot to many.
I won't kill someone over 'gay' marriage or military rights, but I respect those who choose it!
Marriage. Adoption. Violence-free existence. Equal chances. Respectful treatment. Prejudice-free acknowledgement. A loving & accepting family environment... there's so much that many gay and transgender people are denied in the personal and political sphere- I still can't grasp why governments need to make laws to justify the violation of a basic human right...!
I've never understood why some people think marriage should be available only to heterosexual couples. What I mean to say is I can follow the line of thinking that arrives at this conclusion, but I don't understand the point at which the line starts (that homosexuality is a sin).
To follow this TRAIN of thought, the concept of 'sin' in the New Age is seen as simply QUAINT. Even the last Roman Catholic pope hinted at sin's inevitable extinction when he proclaimed in one of his last encyclicals that hell no longer exists (imagine!), therefore neither does sin, for the devil himself is now homeless!
I read an article suggesting that a distinction be made between a religious marriage and and civil marriage - a civil marriage would be available to any couple, regardless of gender. The officiant of a religious marriage would have the right to refuse to marry two people for whatever reason. The point is, if someone is morally or religiously opposed to two people getting married, there shouldn't be a law saying they have to do it anyway. On the other hand, those two people shouldn't be denied the right to be married elsewhere. I'm an Orthodox Christian. My priest cannot marry two non-Orthodox people, even if they're some other 'type' of Christian. At least one of them has to be Orthodox and if only one is, the service is actually a little different. If two people want to make a legally binding, government protected life commitment to each other, they should be able to, but no religious group should be forced to alter its foundation or beliefs in order to accommodate that. Then we're just violating someone else's rights.

Hopefully by the end of my life, this will seem as ridiculous as the interracial marriage laws that were in place at the beginning of my life.ba_miracle says,
