Your funeral. How about some songs.

Backstory

I have a suspicion this one may have been asked before, but there's no harm in revisiting it if it has.

accidentaltourist says,

I would hope for something that leads to dancing...but of course being dead, I wouldn't be able to dance...and that would be sad for me....but of course being DEAD, I wouldn't know I'm sad.

You see my dilemma.

maryjane31 says,

Oh I have to have songs! I will pick some real sad ones so my mean sister will cry. I will also pick nice ones so the good people will not cry. I would then peek through the clouds and see what everyone is doing and the mean sister better be there and she better be crying!!

jl333 says,

I don't want a funeral. My friends didn't have time for me while I was here, so why on earth would they make time for me when I'm dead?!

Sagacious says,

I'm going to throw my two bobs worth in here. There are two songs from R.E.M.'s "Automatic For The People" album that would make perfect funeral songs. One is "Sweetness Follows" and the other is "Find The River".

Sagacious says,

It's medication time, troll.

Dean6805 says,

"This Too Shall Pass by OK Go, "Where the Streets Have No Name" by U2, "Given To Fly" by Pearl Jam, "I Got A Feeling" by The Blackeyed Peas, "The Lazy Song" by Bruno Mars, and one song by by John Prine - just to give a somber note - but then back to happy stuff. Monkees, Jack Johnson, etc.

Sagacious says,

I love Given To Fly. PJ's self-titled album has the saddest, but most beautiful song called "Come Back"- definitely funeral material.

Mourningdove says,

Dust in the wind- Kansas

marymc says,

"The Dance", Garth Brooks.

sisterpoet says,

Let it Be...

Undermom says,

Dance Me to the End of Love - Leonard Cohen

sisterpoet says,

@Debtwo.......I LOVE Leonard Cohen. I should have thought of him!!!!! I have seen him twice, what an experience to be in his presence. Any room filled with his music would be cool

canadafreeze says,

Leonard Cohen definitely brings magic to a room. Saw him live in Vegas - what a juxtaposition that was, but what a show.

I always thought "Puttin' on the Ritz" would bring a smile to anyone attending my funeral.

canadafreeze says,

The preferred version of "Putting on the Ritz" by Gene Wilder from Young Frankenstein, of course.

LucidDreamer says,

Oh-my-LANTA.....canadafreeze's Gene Wilder song is a fantastic idea - love that! It would make everyone in attendance laugh!

TheAngstyPoet says,

"I Was Here" by Beyonce. It's my anthem.

Knoxena says,

I want my funeral to be an ice cream social. Everyone come and have ice cream sundaes, and just get to know one another. I have very different sets of friends and I'd like my family, if they "ALL" come, meet one another. The one song I'd like to have played is a christian song called "The Voice of Truth" a few different singers have recorded it so I'm not going to mention one, but this song has been a big struggle in my life. When I'm having a difficult time and I listen to it I'm set straight and get my act together. So after that the Beatles.

AQScott says,

"For Good" from Wicked.

ba_miracle says,

I Believe I Can Fly - R Kelly...but ONLY if my parachute failed to open.

ba_miracle says,

Judas Priest - Diamonds and Rust

U2 – A beautiful day

Enigma – Return to innocence
Sacred spirits - Yeha-Noha (wishes of happiness & prosperity)
Enya - Wild Child –Only Time –Tempus Vernum –Flora’s Secret -One by One

Smash Mouth – All Star
Gnarls Barkley – Crazy
Onerepublic – Good Life

Pink Floyd - Learning to Fly -Childhoods End – High Hopes

favepeep says,

Thunder Road - Springsteen
Do Wah Diddy Diddy - Manfred Mann
These Boots Are Made for Walkin' - Nancy Sinatra
Comfortably Numb - Pink Floyd
I'm a Believer - The Monkees

Wench says,

Dido - Thank you.

Wench says,

Oh, and is it self-absorbed to play Angel From Montgomery at your own funeral? Willie Nelson makes me want to cry.

Larry_D._Smith says,

"Just One of Those Things" -- written by Cole Porter, and I'd like the version sung by Ella Fitzgerald. Though the Pogues do a rocking version, too. My next of kin can make a game-day call on that.

wendel says,

We Fly So Close by Phil Collins.

MO_Thoughts2 says,

"I Can Only Imagine" by Mercy Me.
"Ain't No Sunshine" preferably played by my favorite local band.

tonyglim says,

"Amazing Grace" by Judy Collins.
"The Lord's Prayer" by Andrea Bocelli.

treehugger says,

Thank You - Johnny Reid
and
Now Comes The Night - Rob Thomas

Level1 says,

Sting's cover of Little Wing

Wench says,

There's a song that always reminds me of funerals, but not one I'd want played at mine, even though it's beautiful. "Center Aisle" by Caedmon's Call.

maryjane31 says,

@tonyglim; You hit my favorites right on the head! Love both singers as well, especially Bocelli.

BanjoDan says,

Shakira singing Amazing Grace and Danny Boy even if she sings in Spanish

oopsalittle says,

Permission to shine. By Bachelor girl.

KharisJo says,

from one Chisel fan to another, Barnsey belting out Flame Trees might not be a bad send off :)

MrsPremise says,

I love Angel From Montgomery, too. The Bonnie Raitt , John Prine version. Little Wing by Sting, also. But what had me laughing last night was imagining everyone's faces when "Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life" is played. The class clown that I am, this would surprise no one. :-)

Believe says,

Pennies from Heaven, and No One Is Alone

Laconic says,

"Stairway to Heaven" done by me in my best kareoke.

EnMasse says,

Shadowplay, Decades, New Dawn Fades, Dead Souls (all Joy Division)..don't want a funeral (what difference would it make to me?), cremation much better - no dark, cramped holes for me! Suppose the relatives may want ceremony - their option on that only. I want a little of me left every place I've traveled to, that, yes.

Rosenrot says,

Remnants by Nox Arcana - a beautiful instrumental piece that, without words, would perfectly say what I no longer could.

Sagacious says,

EnMasse, I think the entire "Closer" album would be appropriate for someone who has committed suicide.
