Are white shoes ok before Easter?

Backstory

Ok, so I'm from Alabama where etiquitte is almost a law. When I was growing up, my mother never, EVER, under any circumstances let me wear white shoes before Easter. Is that an antiquated custom or does it still hold true? It's really warm and I don't have any black flats...

I live in California so white is year-round. I think places back east and in the Midwest, the rule may be more applicable. If the weather is warm, I don't see why not. It probably depends on the social milieu of your region and your comfort level. I am kind of a I don't give a $#*& person.

I thought it was no white before Memorial Day, and then not after Labor Day? That was NJ in the 60's... Nowadays I can't imagine wearing white shoes that weren't sneakers.

It was 80 the other day and I wore white sandals. No horrified looks, not that I would have cared...

MrsPremise says,

Don't wear white shoes. It was a joke between an old friend and myself. The answer wasn't "when" but "never". (Ok, I do own white sneakers, but they always startle me, Snort!)
