Remember the movie 'Duel' with Dennis Weaver being stalked, chased by that truck driver? Never saw the truck driver but he freaked me out! What a great movie.
Good point, oops. The unknown bad guy can be even more frightening than the known one. I read an article that said that Michael Myers was referred to as "The Shape" in the original Halloween movie.
Robert Mitchum in Night of the Hunter (with Shelly Winters). I saw it as a child and it haunts me to this day. He plays a "preacher" who is pure evil. His seemingly normal and calm exterior was chilling. It was the first time I saw a bad guy that didn't look like a bad guy.
Michael Keaton as the tenant from hell in Pacific Heights. DD, yes, Mitchum was great in that and in Cape Fear but I think Robert DeNiro's take on that same character was even more twisted. When he stuck his thumb in the daughter's mouth it was just wrong, SO VERY, VERY WRONG!!!!!
I just reread the question. I would not pick either of those characters as a "favorite" because they are just way too disturbing. If I had to choose a favorite, then it would be Bette Davis as Baby Jane simply for the camp factor.
