I remember "rivers" and bad breaks, but not widows and orphans. Must be the floating words in a 2" column, go figure. Bad type all around these days. Not much of an art-form anymore, if you ask me.
Widows are one word on a line by itself, regardless of the column width. Orphans are the end of a sentence at the top of a second column. Bad type makes me cry.
