Book given that helped change you?

Backstory

I was given an encyclopedia dictionary when I was very young. This book had a dictionary that I could fine any word that I needed to use, correct spelling and difinition. All the presidents of the U.S.A., with bios. List of names and what they meant and origins. Measurements. World maps, geography. Some U.S. history.
This book showed me that I could find the answer to any question in a book somewhere. (This was before the common use of computers.

LucidDreamer says,

"The Sunflower" by Simon Wiesenthal...the book was mind-opening, the letters to the author (included in the book) were even more so.

Knoxena says,

How did it change you?

marymc says,

"Dance of Anger", Harriet Lerner. As women, we are never taught how to deal with this very real and powerful emotion.

Knoxena says,

You are right.

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX says,

actually, there are two...EDUCATION AND ECSTASY, awakening me to how the educational process disserves children from kindergarten on. and A ROCK AND A HARD PLACE by and about a young man who faces AIDS. I recommend both to anyone.

LucidDreamer says,

Knoxena - before I read The Sunflower, I fought with myself to forgive people who were (1) not sorry for they had done, or (2) had done something so awful I couldn't see my way thru to forgiving them. I'm not saying you should't forgive....I've forgiven, and I've been forgiven, too. But I learned the difference between forgiving and just letting things go so you can move on with your life. I've learned that it's ok to feel some things are unforgivable, and I've learned that forgiveness is not a requirement of being a good person - it's a gift, one human to another.

Knoxena says,

You are very right. You need to heal yourself, from the hurt that was inflicked, before you can forgive.

The Hidden Staircase, Carolyn Keene

Knoxena says,

Was that the only Nancy Drew book that you liked? That was one of my favorites, too.

PoisonedHeart says,

The Secret Journal of Brett Colton. This book is amazing, helping a teen girl go through troubling times with her family and her love life, while becoming interested in the LDS church. Now, it isnt really just for LDS people. it is for everyone. read it:)

Dancing Naked by Shelley Hrdlitschka changed me. It's not a very long book (which was new for me since most of the books I read are 600+ pages) but it truly hit me. I bawled my eyes out during about the last five chapters because I was so engrossed in it. It's about a girl who ends up pregnant and the dad wants her to have an abortion. She goes to "get it over with" and right before they start the procedure she makes them stop. She decides that she is keeping the baby. She works for a home and at this home is a woman named Grace. and Grace teaches her how to dance naked. I would recommend this book to anyone who needs a little hope. It lifts me up every time I read it. I'm still learning to dance naked and its the best feeling in the world.

Dhani says,

'The voice-channelled document 'A COURSE IN MIRACLES', handZ down...

soularcher says,

'Wintergirls' by Laurie Halse Anderson. It's about an anorexic girl, Lia, whose (bulimic) best friend dies. They had fought six months ago, and Lia was left broken by her best friend. Six months later, Cassie (the dead one) called her thirty three times in one night, asking for help and forgiveness, and Lia didn't answer. If she had, her best friend would still be alive.
This book touched me so deep. It is one of the best books I've ever read and I absolutely recommend it to anyone and everyone. It changed the way I look at the world.

God's Blogs by Lanny Donoho

Larry_D._Smith says,

"Vagabonding" by Rolf Potts. It reminded me that travel is about people not stuff, and money is never a reason to be held b back from adventure.
