Backstory
I was once in a bad car accident - the car flipped over, we needed help getting out, etc. A man came over and help us get out of the car, then had another bystander make calls to family for us, and had another person call for an ambulance. He sat on the ground with me and made the driver of the other car (who caused the accident, but was for some reason enraged at us) stop screaming at us. He stayed with us until we were taken away in the ambulance. I have no idea who he was, but I've always been grateful for how he stepped in to help us the way he did.

My story is similar. A truck hit me on the driver's side. My car went off the highway into trees. I was pinned inside until firemen arrived to cut open the door. Several strangers stopped and helped. One woman was a nurse with her teenage son. She bandaged my arm which was cut (needed 19 stitches). Kept others from moving me. Got me water to spit out the glass in my mouth. She got my glasses from the back seat (they had been knocked off my face). Got my purse, my cell phone, and other personal items together for me to take in the ambulance. Of course she stayed until it arrived. I asked for her name and got her number. I have talked to her several times. I live in Georgia and she was on her way home to South Carolina. Another person went to get a policeman at another accident, and I believe that is the same person who gave a statement to the officer for the accident report. I didn't get a chance to thank him.marymc says,
wow. mine seems so minor...The car in front of me in line at the Burger King drive thru paid for my lunch. Two years later I was at a Subway and the man in front of me wanted to pay for his dinner with a credit card and their machines were down. He didn't have the cash so I paid for his. I hope he bought someone else a meal at some point.LucidDreamer says,
marymc, I can tell you from personal experience that sometimes those smaller kind gestures, like a stranger paying for your lunch, can restore one's faith in people after a particularly bad stretch of luck and disappointments. I am sure you made that man's day, and I'm guessing he will take the chance to do the same for someone else in the future. I don't think it's minor at all...its fantastic.EnMasse says,
Yep, quite often indeed. They follow me around, picked me up a few times, actually numerous. Don't know where they come from :-)BalancingAct says,
I've been very fortunate. I have experiened the kindness of many strangers throughout my life - as a child, adolescent, young adult and now an adult. I'm not sure why it happens and I have always been very grateful. I try to kind things for pople I do and do not know whenever the opportunity presents itself.ShanBan96 says,
I try to be kind to people as well and everything I do is for Jesus Christ. In the Bible it says to treat others as you wish to be treated and I try to live that out as much as I can. :)
