Wench says,

As a photographer, I have to say they're equally important. As a person, trying to get through life without failing at absolutely everything... I still have to say they're equally important. Sometimes it really takes seeing what you've got or what you don't have, what you should be grateful for and what is really wrong in your life to make a change. And then it requires focus and determination to keep moving in the right direction and to keep evaluating what that direction is.

Awesome answer. Yeah, it's kind of rhetorical to ask a yes/no question, I guess, or too limiting. I'm an essay question type of person myself. There's always an 'and' or a 'but', right? I'd have to say they're equally important too, according to the same rules. Thanks for the insight.

BanjoDan says,

Great question! I would say focus to start with and then incorporate the contrast in photography as well as life.

illuminatrix says,

Hell yes! Perfect order of events. Nice way of thinking about it. Thanks BanjoDan.

marymc says,

More than focus or contrast, I would think the overall composition is most important.

lillybrook says,

Focus really indicates perspective -- because the point of focus changes with every person who encounters the scene -- which illustrates how unique focus is.
