Does Hollywood's poetic license need renewal?

Backstory

There are three Oscar nominated movies that are based on actual events, "Argo", "Zero Dark Thirty", and "Lincoln". How important do you think it is to be historically accurate? Do you believe it is OK to dramatize history and use poetic license to tell, and perhaps embellish, the story.

NumbrOneAunt says,

i think it's only problematic when a viewer makes the leap in their mind from "based on actual events" to "this is the way it really happened." people need to be aware that a dramatization is not documentary.
