There were no mobiles when my sons were teenagers. I developed an anxiety disorder. Never knew where they were. When they were late, I worried so much. With cell phones it would have been so much easier for me and them.
I agree with maryjane31, except for my ex, not my children. He traveled a lot for work and it was always hard to keep in touch. I felt so lonely. Cell phones, email, texting--all would have been so useful in those days.
Today, no one calls me much, but I sure feel odd when I forget my phone. I've grown so used to all the features and the comfort it brings. I still only have a basic phone though. Data rates just seem like so much for a smartphone, considering how little I think I'd use it.
When I was still working, I used to wish my boss didn't have a cell phone. Before cell phones, you could count on quiet time to catch up on stuff when the boss was driving somewhere, or away from the office. Cell phones changed all that! Argh!!
