Believe says,

I've chatted with several six worders. They are quite lovely chatters. But I'm not sure how official I'd want the concept to become.

accidentaltourist says,

I've thought about it.

canadafreeze says,

Thinking ...

canadafreeze says,

I was drawn here by the writing and that is why I stay. The option to contact individuals exists and for me, that's enough.

Wench says,

Good points, all. That's pretty much how I feel about it, too.

L2L3 says,

And here we are...chatting.

Sagacious says,

I'm insanely curious about how a lot of the contributors here look and sound like. I'm open to a quick chat with anyone if they're interested, but it would (obviously) be separate from this website.

Wench says,

Segway question: What are people's preferred forms of online communication? I've got Skype but haven't used it much. More when my brother-in-law was in Iraq, we would do video chat with him. I use Gmail so I use their chat service, as well.

Sagacious says,

I have Gmail, but have never used the chat service.

Believe says,

I'm a texter, not a chatter.

Dean6805 says,

Jen and I use gmail IM when we're (supposed to be) working. It's convenient and not glitchy at all. I use ooVoo with my Deaf friends.

accidentaltourist says,

Texting, sixing, and facebook chatting...usually all at the same time....while I'm trying to make deadline for the paper. I do love a good multitask challenge.

treehugger says,

I use GChat with my sister but otherwise don't chat too much.

lillybrook says,

Like Believe, I am a texter. I don't think I'd want six chat. I like that communication on the site is slower than social media sites.

Loon says,

do it

Dragonflower says,

What would I chat about? The sixes say it all. Besides my keyboard sticks. So, not so interested. Unless we had a book club, maybe. That might be fun.

ba_miracle says,

I'd try it.

unknown116 says,

It would be a fun idea to have SmithChat. Who ever made that one six about having a Smith meet up, I think that would be fantastic. The website should arrange some sort of fancy dinner party or something.

Wench says,

unknown, that was me. =) Wordstock 2013!

L2L3 says,

website? what constitutes "the website?"

Believe says,

Unknown, as well executed as this site is, I don't get the impression that it is at the multimillion dollar levels of other sites (ie Facebook or Twitter). Notice that there are very little ads and extra junk affiliated with the site. We may have to wait quite a while for a fancy dinner. Larry did buy me an ice-cream at the famous Doumars Drive-in, though. Does that count?

unknown116 says,

Well then we all should arrange something. (Oh, and thanks Wench:)) And it doesn't have to be fancy, I just thought it would make things that much more fun.

Larry_D._Smith says,

That ice cream was delicious, Believe.

And indeed we're a small operation. Here's who works at SMITH, which includes all aspects of the site, the live events and workshops, the books, and various and sundry other things: me; a part-time editor who helps run SMITHTeens; a quarter-time tech guy; a few volunteers who are very much appreciated.

The social aspects -- a few profile questions; the option to contact another member via the site, at which point you can choose to share emails or Skype or whatever you like -- are intentionally kept to a minimum for reasons that are a combination of sticking to the site's mission and simply the limited ability to support it tech and time wise. Make no mistake, the list of things to do to make this site look, feel and run smoother is long. The donations that have come in have been helpful and appreciated and the block option's here. Next up: having an option to receive and email when someone comments or favorites one of your stories. Also, we're doing a little redesign of the subject tabs (Life/Questions/Moms/etc, that's just about ready. And -- finally after many fits and false starts! -- the Six-Word Memoir app will be out in a few months.
