The easy answer is yes. But the amount depends on your needs. Personally I have a nice sum policy with my brother named as guardian for my kids. It should be enough to cremate me and pay for their housing and college. Once the kids are out of the house and on their own, I will probably drastically reduce it.
I think its important when you are young(er). And to get one that lasts well into the older years without it costing a zillion dollars. I believe this so that obligations you may have can be taken care of, including final expenses. Once I looked into prepaying my funeral costs, but I didn't go through with it. Kinda wish I had of. It is hard to think about these things, but helpful to loved ones later on. Now that I am getting older to renew the policy I have will not be affordable. It is good for another 10 years. Have been thinking of discussing this with my agent, but feel he will use scare tactic on me to buy stuff I don't want, rather than be practical.
The agent I had forever and trusted, passed away 3 years ago.I "inherited" the new agent and haven't really warmed to him. Good question.

I did the calculations today. And in my opinion, seems like life insurance is a much better payout than if I were to leave stocks to somebody.JAD says,
