This reminds of a great bit in one of my favorite holiday movies, The Holiday. Kate Winslet's character is told something that has stuck with me for years. "You are leading lady material, but for some reason you're acting like the best friend." Kate replies, "Yes, you should be the leading lady of your own life, for goodness sakes."
I've been trying to be a leading lady. First I still have to figure out what that means for me. !!
For a more specific answer, I am really alot like Kate in that movie but haven't found my Jack Black yet.
I frequently feel like George Bailey in "It's A Wonderful Life." Something of a romantic, a bit goofy, even a bit cranky on occasion, but I like to think I can figure things out in time to appreciate what I really have. "No man is a failure, who has friends" is what Clarence writes to him in the book. I feel that's very true and, therefore, I could never be considered a failure.
similar to autumn22's comment, i am the character in every rom com who gets left behind when the leading man and leading lady for whom the audience is supposed to be rooting realize that they are meant for each other and disentangle themselves from their current relationships.
Well then I'm the Meg Ryan in those same rom coms, who gets what/who she wants. Only the movie stops at the happily ever after part, but my life seldom does.
I'm like Calamity Jane - the part where you look really pretty and happy, and somehow always end up tripping my self up - falling in mud, egg on my face - you get the idea.
I am the main character, and -- at some point -- I am going to achieve it all and the crowd will cry and applaud. And the critics will love it: the drama, the action, the humor. I am already practicing my Oscar speech ;-)
