JAD says,

I always do.

marymc says,

I've never tried them. Even with my Southern roots, they were never served. I assume I have missed something good?

Steve__Anthony says,

Yeap. I love 'em.

JAD says,

You have indeed marymc.

maryjane31 says,

I heard they bring good luck for the New Year. I just might serve them. I got a great southern cookbook at a garage sale and it is packed with great recipes and I saw one for Black-eyed peas. Can't hurt to try.

marymc says,

I could use some good luck.

JAD says,

marymc some people will serve them even if they don't like them just because of the good luck part. So you and maryjane let me know.

Bevvie says,

Not serving them. But will be eating them along with collard greens for good luck and money in the coming year.

JAD says,

Here's good luck! to everyone above and to those who may comment below.

Dragonflower says,

yes. they are delish.

Believe says,

They taste like dirt.

L2L3 says,

Picked up the cabbage and ham hock today. Black-eyed peas are a cupboard staple. Every kind of dried legume is a staple, actually. After round one we'll meld it into split pea soup, which I prefer to black-eyed peas.

JAD says,

Sorry about that Believe.:( ....L2L3 never had split pea soup may try it.

ctgoods2 says,

yep

jl333 says,

I have to agree with Believe on this one. I'll politely pass on the black-eyed peas unless your referring to the music group.

JAD says,

:)

Believe says,

I have eaten black eyed peas every year since I can remember. I think their luck bringing powers have sufficiently waned. I am here by putting my foot down. No more black eyed peas. I am the mama of a hardcore vegetarian, so we eat a lot, and I mean A LOT, of beans. Black eyed peas are the only bean that I do not like. I like the mainstream (cranberry, navy, pinto, black) to the rare (goat eyes, Christmas Lima, borlotti, flageolet) but I can not, will not eat a black eyed pea. And I certainly won't listen to them either. Fergie is less appealing to me than a bowl full of dirt beans.

JAD says,

Believe, believe me I understand. More people dislike them than do.

Mourningdove says,

Never have tried them, around here in Ohio the tradition is to have pork and Sauerkraut.

JAD says,

Mourningdove I just learned about the pork and sauuerkraut tradition New Year's they had several listed depending on where you lived.

Dhani says,

It's only 'traditional' for African-Americans...I love my black eyed peas! (Sweet potato pie, cornbread & greens too!) No.I'm not Black...

Redx3 says,

Because of Smith, I tried them this year. They were wonderful with turkey sausage! Hope it still brings *luck*!!

JAD says,

:)

JAD says,

Redx3 wishing much luck your way!

Redx3 says,

Thanks JAD!
