Backstory
For example, I was sick a lot as a child and had to stay in bed to recuperate. I was only allowed to color, so I pretended my colored pencils were "people" and made up stories about them. Or, at the kitchen table, I'd play with the salt and pepper and napkin holder, etc. and pretend they had magical lives. Mmmm, maybe I belong on that misfit island.....

As little girls, my sister told me I didn't know how to make a corn husk doll. So I took a corn husk, cleaned it, dried it out, cut yarn and glued it to the top of its head, cut out a little skirt and top for it, and played with it for at least... a week.canadafreeze says,
Used to make hollyhock dolls - dozens of them at a time and stage a "ball" ... The bloom makes a fabulous dancing skirt:-)MO_Thoughts2 says,
When my son was around a year, a empty can of Pringles and the metal lids from juice concentrate would keep him occupied while I took a shower. He loved to put them in the tube, hear the clink, then pour them out and start again. We would also use the lids of the juice concentrate to make our our memory games. We would would buy horse, dinosaur, cartoon character stickers (whatever the interest of the week) make a game set, then play.

I just remembered something my daughter would do too--She was little in the 80s. I used to remove those huge shoulder pads from my work jackets because I didn't like the football uniform look. She would use them for "boats" for her games with her little stuffed animals. One of my biggest joys was to just listen to her play and talk out loud as she made up her stories with her toy animals/dolls.maryjane31 says,
I have numerous times with my boys when they were little. Also my dollhouse, which was my favorite toy, I made so many things out of nothing. Clothes pins for people, etc.
