It's easier to label it that when something physical is involved, but I think a love affair can exist without ever even meeting. Infidelity of the heart - reciprocated - voiced - explored and developed, doesn't need to involve touch.
Of course not -unless 'affair' implies its usual meaning, which is a 'physical' relationship. I'm having love 'affairs' with my two cats, my dog & my rose garden. I'm having a PLATONIC love 'affair' with a young, drop-dead gorgeous male martial arts teacher, but I'd love to change that!
Why have one of another nature? If you have one as Wench described you might as well have some hot sex at that point.
